NiGHTS: Journey Of Dreams - A Review

So, I haven't played this game all the way through yet, but I think I've played it enough to form an opinion, and from what I've seen, it's pretty cool.  The thing that disappointed me first of all is that, unlike most SEGA games, there is no option to set the voices to Japanese in this one, which I often utilise because the English voices, particularly in Sonic games, bother me (one reason why I hope someday to own a copy of the PS3/360 version of Sonic Unleashed, which has the option of Japanese voices, a feature which the PS2 version - which I own - lacks). I later discovered this was because there ARE no Japanese voices - the game was never dubbed in Japanese, and was released in English even in its native Japan. Still, the voices aren't TOO bad, and though it's hard to convey an androgynous personification of freedom and rebellion (or whatever NiGHTS is supposed to be), I don't think he/she (I'm just gonna refer to NiGHTS as "she" from now...

GOOD MORNING, MISTER VICE PRESIDENT!!!

(Title is a quote from Futurama that has no relevance to the following post) Happy Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/Free Stuff Day, people! Wanna know what I got? No? Well, screw you, I'm gonna tell you anyway! I got NiGHTS: Journey Of Dreams for the Wii, so I finally got a game featuring the inspiration for my cat's name. I also got a few books, which I'll list below for your bemusement. The Mythic Bestiary: The Illustrated Guide To The World's Most Fantastical Creatures by Tony Allen (An awesome book that is what it is - a catalogue of famous mythical creatures. Everyone knows I'm absolutely crazy about mythology, so I love this book) The QI G Annual - I have the F Annual already, so the G Annual is a welcome addition to my collection. I LOVE QI, I absolutely freaking LOVE it, and anything to do with it is a winner in my book. Making History by Stephen Fry - I haven't read it yet, but if it's by Stephen Fry (one of my favourite famous people in general, in no sma...

FOR REAL THIS TIME

EET EESH DONE FINALLY ULTIMATELY ONCE AND FOR ALL MY WORK IS COMPLETE THANK YOU FOR ALL, PROUD WARRIORS YOU WERE SO GREAT LIGHT BE WITH YOU ALL!!!

Let my proclamation be heard across the land!

For all those who doubted my abilities, I have two words for you... IT'SH DONE!!! (Yes, that H is meant to be there. Explanation following post.) My coursework is all written up! Now I just need to print it, bind it and send it. I'm so close! Don't let me fail now! And now the explanation. There is a scene in a DVD called Infinite Visions Of Stratovarius, a collection of various "home videos" that Finland-based power metal band Stratovarius (one of my favourites) made over the years. One scene depicts the band filling out paperwork for a new record deal. It's obviously late and Timo Kotipelto (the lead singer) is hard at work filling out forms in the background. As the rest of the band talk about their new record deal, Timo suddenly lays down his pen, throws up his hands and declares "IT'SH DONE!" He pronounced "it's" like "it'sh" due to his strong Finnish accent. So that's where it comes from. Light be with you!

Get ready, time for a lesson!

So I deal with a lot of Latin phrases in the course I take (Business Management), so I thought I'd take this time to waste all of your time telling how to correctly pronounce Latin! Latin is phonetic, remember that. It's always the same pronunciation, no matter what the word looks like. Vowels: A - Short as in cat, long as in father E - Short as in pet, long as in they I - Short as in pit, long as in machine O - Short as in got, long as in holy U - Short as in put, long as in true Distinction between short and long vowels is usually done with an accent, but all vowels in all words can be either long or short, depending on how you say the word. Consonants - Note that c and g are always hard in Latin (that means c is always pronounced as in camel and g is always as in goat). V is pronounced like W. As any Indiana Jones fan will tell you, in the Latin alphabet, Jehovah begins with an I - this is because the Latin alphabet HAS no J. Some Latin words are usually written with a J, bu...

Wonderfully profound, Futurama!

Ahh, Futurama. Who doesn't love that show? Me, I adore it, but the thing I love most about it are the songs. Now, the songs are entertaining and catchy, but there's one that goes beyond entertaining for me, into something that might be actually meaningful and philosophical in a weird way. In the episode "How Hermes Requisitioned His Groove Back", Hermes sings an upbeat, reggae-style tune detailing how much he loves bureaucracy. On the surface it seems to be just another catchy song, but there are two lines in it that, oddly enough, really speak to me. "When push comes to shove, you gotta do what you love/Even if it's not a good idea." It really sells the whole "live life to the full" concept to me, which I've always been a fan of. I wish I could explain how I felt about this more, but I'm not so good with words. Just know that I love those lines, and not just for their entertainment value. Here's the song in full, just 'cause. I...

Question.

I wonder... does it say something about me that I like songs with morbid lyrics? This is pretty much one of my favourite verses ever, mainly because of the way it sounds. And then he said... "Every step appears to be The unavoidable consequence of the preceding one And in the end there beckons... More and more clearly... Total... (At this point the voice becomes much louder, and sounds distorted and electronic) ANNIHILATIOOOOO...*this continues for some time*...OOON!!!" You HAVE to hear how that sounds. The song is "After The Flood", the artist is "Van Der Graaf Generator" and the album is called "The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other". Light be with you!
