Close your eyes, you'll be here soon

Welcome to White Space. You have been living here for as long as you can remember.

It's time for some pointless trivia about Omori.

WARNING: MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD. IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED OMORI YET, AND ARE INTERESTED IN DOING SO, PLEASE DO SO BEFORE READING ANY FURTHER. OMORI IS ONE OF THOSE GAMES THAT'S BEST EXPERIENCED WITHOUT ANY PRIOR KNOWLEDGE, AND I'D HATE TO RUIN THAT FOR YOU.

Okay, have they gone? Good.

The creator of the character Space Boyfriend confirmed that he is transgender. Sadly, no evidence of this exists in the game, since Omocat wrote the version of Space Boyfriend that appears in the game and was unaware of this aspect of the character at the time. They have later confirmed that he is indeed still canonically trans, though.

Originally, the player was going to be able to choose whether Omori was a boy or a girl, which would have also changed Aubrey's gender - picking girl Omori would have resulted in Aubrey being a boy, and vice versa. This was ultimately scrapped when the developers realised they would have to make a whole new set of battle and field sprites for Girl Omori and Boy Aubrey, as well as new dialogue to fit the gender choices. A nod to this is given in the Route B-exclusive Slime Girls sidequest, completion of which grants the player a Mystery Potion which turns Omori into a girl when he drinks it. However, the effect wears off if you look in a mirror or get into a battle.

A recipe book tie-in for the game was published which contains recipes for some of the food items in the game, including a recipe for Kel's favourite drink, Orange Joe, which involves mixing orange juice and coffee. The description in the recipe book includes the statements "Only Kel will drink this" and "If it tastes bad, that's normal".

There's a few scenes that were cut from the final game, including one in particular that takes place after the player completes the Hangman quest. Omori and friends would play cards in Neighbor's Room when Mari would enter, telling them about an empty, haunted house that just appeared on the edge of the forest. She would then join the party as they headed to Basil's house, now corrupted by Black Space. Entering, the player would find a large hole in the middle of the floor, which Mari would sit at the edge of. Examining the hole and attempting to jump into it would cause Mari to stop Omori from jumping, before leaving the house. The player would then be able to select the Stab option from the menu, and doing so would cause Omori to try to stab himself, only for Sunny to take over and hesitate before Omori would take over again and stab himself, during which the silhouette of Mari's hanged corpse would cover the screen. The player would then wake up in Basil's house as Sunny, completely surrounded by Something. This was likely cut because it would have contradicted the game's story, as Omori was specifically created to protect Sunny from Something and Black Space, so having him leave Sunny at their mercy like that would have run counter to his purpose.

Though only identified as Something in the game itself, the four forms of Something do have actual names that can be found in the game files. They are, in order: Something in the Dark, Something in the Walls, Something in the Water, and Something in the Wind (Mari's corpse). When the first three Somethings are fought in the Lost Library on Route B, they are identified in the game files as Heights, Spiders and Drowning respectively.

An unused emotion named Panic exists in the game's data, which was intended to be the second stage of Afraid, with the third being Stressed Out.

The game's files also contain a version of the photo album found in Black Space along with captions for each photo. When put in order, the captions read as follows (note: any typos made existed in the original text):

Photo of a Wall - You heard some scoffing from behind the wall, but paid it no notice. You were in no mood to focus. You were overcame. You were sick of everything. You know it wasn't a big deal, but you couldn't control yourself.

Photo of a Broken Violin - Your precious violin lay shattered at the bottom of the staircase. You threw it in a rage. Your fingers were shaking in pain... practicing over and over... but you still make mistakes after mistakes. This was all a bad idea.

Photo of an Argument - Mari was yelling at you. You couldn't understand what she was saying. She didn't understand you at all... She didn't understand that you just weren't good enough. The only thing you hold onto was your anger. This pain... was it her fault?

Photo of a Fight - Mari blocked your path. She says that she isn't finished talking. She tells you not to run away... but why not? You did this all for her! Why was she yelling at you? You didn't understand...

Photo of a Murder - You lose all sense and push her down the staircase.

Photo of Silence - You watched Mari crush on top of your broken violin. The sound wakes you up to nothing but silence. You called out to her, but she doesn't answer. Your heart sinks into your stomach.

Photo of Panic - It happened in an instant. You didn't mean to do that. Well, you did mean to push her, didn't you? It was an accident, right? You're not sure. You tremble your way down the staircase.

Photo of Desperation - You call her name, but she doesn't answer. You sweep the bits of wood from her body. Nothing but scratches. You turn her around and see her face. She looks asleep... but then, why isn't she answering?

Photo of an Accomplice - You pick up Mari and drag her up the stairs. She feels lighter than you think. She just needs to lie down in a bed... She just needs some rest...

Photo of Disbelief - Your heart beats out of your chest. Your head feels fuzzy. You lose vision. You push the door to the bedroom open, and make your way to her bed. She's going to be okay, right? This is just a dream, right?

Photo of Anguish - You call her name over and over, but she doesn't answer. You watch the light from the window cast a shadow over her face. She's expressionless. You sink your fingers into her arm, and break down into tears.

Photo of Guilt - You want to scream for help, but you're afraid... you mumble to yourself... what if they ask what happened? There's no way you can tell them the truth. Who would be able to forgive him? Who would believe... that it was... an accident?

Photo of an Idea - A whisper comes from behind you, but you ignore it. A cry comes from behind you, but you ignore it. You cover your face with your arms. This isn't real. None of this real. Why won't you wake up?

Photo of Hopelessness - Everything appears dark. The shadows slither around you. You don't understand what is happening... Your head starts to feel fuzzy... You sink into a crevice in your mind... an empty white room.

Photo of Support - Your shoulders feel heavy. A familiar voice whispers something unspeakable. Your eyes widen. It tells you to follow its lead. It says... it's the only way out... It says... that everything will be okay.

Photo of Betrayal - You pick up Mari's body and lift it down the staircase. She feels lighter than you think. You feel multiple eyes shift their gaze to you. You keep your eyes toward the ground.

Photo of Hope - You hear the sliding of a familiar door. A voice tells you to walk. A gist of wind enters the room as the light outside engulfs you. You keep your eyes toward the ground.

hoto of a Tree - As you face forward, you listen to the crunching of the grass and feel the coolness of the wind. You hear the leaves in the trees riffle as the sun begins to set... but you try to ignore it. It's all just a dream...

Photo of a Branch - You lay down Mari's body and look up for the first time. Small rays of light shine through the cracks in the leaves. You relish in its beauty and savor the moment. You think... even if this is all real, if you keep looking at the leaves, that... everything will be okay.

Photo of a Rope - You hear pacing, the crunching of the grass sifting back and forth. You think you see a figure pick something off the ground, but you're not sure. You keep staring at the leaves overhead. Everything will be okay... You think... Everything will be okay.

Photo of Hands - You hear shuffling. You hear dragging... and creaking... and pulling. Something is happening, but you refuse to look away from the leaves. Your head feels fuzzy again. You bite your tongue and attempt to wake up one last time, but it's no use... You're still here.

Photo of Legs - You feel a cold hand clutch yours. You try to jerk away, but it squeezes back; unwilling to let you go. The hand drags you backward. You look up and see your best friend for the first time... BASIL. You see the tears falling from his tired eyes as he looks ahead. You suddenly realize that none of this is a dream. All of this is real.

Photo of a Lie - As you and BASIL step into the house, you look back towards the trees and see it. The light engulfs it as it sways in the wind... For a moment, you feel at peace. You hate yourself for feeling this way. Is that all, then? Is everything going to be okay now?

Photo of Something - Suddenly, BASIL stops. You look up at his eyes... but this time, they're wide awake, staring at Something. You turn your eyes toward it as well, though you wish you didn't. An eye meets yours. Your heart sinks into your stomach. You shouldn't have looked back... You just... shouldn't... have looked...

There's an unused alternate version of the last fight against Something in Route B, where Omori uses an army of Hands-kun to attack Something every turn, defeating it with no effort. This would most likely have either replaced the fight with Stranger, or been part of the scene where Omori takes front early to save Sunny from Something in his room.

Abbi was originally going to have her original appearance from the original comic, but her appearance was changed in the final game. Another of Omori's imaginary friends from the original comic, a girl with a kitsune mask named Inko, was also going to appear in the game, but was scrapped.

The original Omoriboy comic was a lot more "adult" than the game, with references to Omori masturbating, drinking alcohol and looking at porn on his laptop. The box of tissues and laptop from the original comic still exist in the game, but their significance and use have been changed. All references to alcohol have been removed. The changes are most likely because Omori is an adult in the comic, but a young teenager in the game.

There's a series of hidden rooms in Black Space 2 (the deeper version of Black Space which can be reached either by playing Route B, or by doing a series of very specific actions on Route A) called the 99 Letter Rooms, which are accessible by collecting 99 keyboard keys. Since there are only 26 keyboard keys in the game, the only way to access these rooms is by hacking the game.

Originally, the player would have had to collect blackletters rather than keyboard keys to complete the Hangman puzzle and get access to Black Space. The blackletters were changed late enough in development that Omocat actually teased them on their Twitter.

One very common powerful combination strategy is something often dubbed the Kel Nuke, which involves equipping Kel with the Chicken Ball, using Coffee to boost his Speed, making him Ecstatic, and having him use Run 'n' Gun for massive damage. The console version includes an exclusive boss rush mode on Route B in which Omori and Basil fight Aubrey, Kel and Hero, who will use this technique once during the fight.

An early trailer shows Omori, Kel, Aubrey and Hero fighting against a version of Something which just looks like a creepy smile on a black background, with all four of them suffering from Afraid status. In the game, no such version of Something is seen, and Omori is immune to Afraid (being that he was specifically created to protect Sunny from his fears).

Originally, another Mari jumpscare was supposed to happen upon opening the front door on Day 2 during daytime if the player had opened the door for Mari the previous night.

The good ending was originally going to be a little longer, and would have shown Sunny entering Basil's room in the hospital before almost collapsing on the floor, causing Aubrey, Kel and Hero to run over to him while Basil's Something continually pulsated under him. He would then have told the truth to them, and the game would end. The final game replaced it with an animated cutscene.

There's a hidden music track in the game files titled "evil", which is every single music track in the entire game combined into a single 7-minute track. It's not known whether this was actually meant to play at some point in the game, or if it was just put in there by the developers to troll dataminers.

The "Basil" VHS tape found in one of the holes was originally going to be a bit longer, with the beginning of the tape showing Mari's corpse on the floor before cutting to the scene with Basil. It was changed because it would have given away her death too early.

The game was originally going to include voice clips for Kel, Aubrey and Hero, used when switching your party's lead. They weren't used in the game, but still exist in the game files, and there's a mod for the game which restores them.

There's a poorly-animated short in the game files titled "In Memory of a Day", a reference to the short film "Requiem for a Tuesday" by Ben Wyatt (from Parks and Recreation). It was supposedly made by Omori and was originally intended to have been viewed on the laptop, but the laptop becomes unusable after the Hangman quest begins, so there is no way to see it.

Enemies originally had separate "damaged" and "defeated" animations in battle, but in the final game, they just use their "Sad" animations with discolouring.

Despite Omori being immune to Afraid in the game, an Afraid character portrait for him does exist in the files.

Though it's never been confirmed, Sunny is often thought of as being autistic, due to the following points and evidence:
He has trouble reading social cues (whenever Aubrey flirts with Omori, he doesn't seem to understand and just gives a thumbs-up)
Is very quiet (in the Memory Lane flashbacks, Basil speaks for Sunny)
Rarely shows emotions, despite feeling them deeply (Basil's photo album captions reveal that Sunny was dreading Mari leaving him to go to college, and his inability to express his anger led to him pushing Mari down the stairs, which is what killed her - the hidden captions for the Black Space photo album heavily imply that Sunny was suffering an autistic meltdown at the time as well)
Is uncomfortable with others initiating physical touch (he seems surprised and confused at the group hug when Aubrey starts crying)
Possibly used his old plushie collection to stim
Appears to maladaptively daydream (Headspace Mari comments on Omori having his head in the clouds, and Sunny often hallucinates pleasant childhood memories of his friend group while walking around Faraway Town)
There's also evidence that he may have developed dissociative amnesia and possibly even dissociative identity disorder due to the trauma of Mari's death - while it's not an exact parallel, the nature of what Omori is has similarities to an alter (being created by Sunny subconsciously as a way to cope with a traumatic event), and it's revealed late in the game that he was the one who vandalised Basil's photo album in the real world while in "control" of Sunny, with Sunny himself having no memory of this.

Similarly, Basil is often theorised to have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), due to showing several symptoms of the condition, such as intense fear of abandonment (he breaks down and screams at Sunny for "leaving him" when the latter is moving away), suicidal ideation in response to such fear, periods of stress-related paranoia with lost contact with reality (believing that a monster caused Mari's death), ongoing feelings of emptiness, unstable relationships (he idealises Sunny, to the point that he refuses to believe that Sunny even accidentally killed his sister) and intense mood swings.

Sunny was initially referred to as Omori during the game's development, before Omocat realised they had to give him a different name. In the internal game files, Sunny is referred to as Faraway Omori.

The song that plays over the credits for the bad ending, a cover of "My Time" by bo en, was actually created long before the game was.

A good early game strategy is to have Kel use Annoy to make Aubrey Angry, Omori use Sad Poem to make an enemy Sad, and then have Aubrey use Headbutt on the Sad enemy for high damage (Headbutt, a skill learned via an easy optional sidequest that unlocks fairly early in the game, does more damage if Aubrey is Angry, but also damages her a little when she uses it).

Another good strategy that basically completely shuts down any encounter with any enemy that can't hit multiple party members at once is as follows:

  • Equip Aubrey with the strongest possible defensive equipment (such as the Cellphone obtained from the recycling sidequest, which gives +10 defense)
  • Have Aubrey use Counter every turn, meaning the enemy will only attack her
  • Have Hero use Cook to heal Aubrey to full every turn
  • Have Kel use Juice Me to keep everyone's Juice topped up
  • Have Omori play the role of main damage dealer
Yet another good combo is for Kel to use Annoy to make an enemy Angry, followed by Omori using Mock on said enemy to harshly debuff their Attack stat. The Angry status increases Attack while decreasing Defense, so by debuffing an Angry enemy's Attack, you basically remove the one positive effect the emotion has. Aubrey can follow up by using Team Spirit to give herself and one other party member (usually Omori, who tends to be the main damage dealer alongside Aubrey) Happy, which will cause them to do even more damage against the Angry enemy.

When Hero teaches the party about emotions in Headspace, he shows a diagram giving examples of each member having a different emotion. These emotions actually correspond to how everyone coped with Mari's death in the real world.
  • Aubrey is depicted as Angry (in the real world, she became angry and bitter when Mari died, avoiding her friends and constantly lashing out at them and other people)
  • Kel is Happy (Kel seemed to move on very quickly from Mari's death, but it was later revealed that it did still affect him deeply, and he was just doing his best to smile through the day)
  • Hero is Sad (Hero became very depressed after Mari died)
  • Sunny is Neutral (Sunny completely emotionally shut down after the death of his sister, refusing to even leave his house for a long time)
  • And while it isn't depicted on the diagram, by process of elimination this would associate Basil with the Afraid status, which is also fitting (Basil became paranoid to the point of delusion due to Mari's death and his guilt over being complicit in covering up Sunny's involvement in it)
In the console-exclusive Route B boss fight against Mari, if you have Basil use his Flower Crown ability, the vines that appear will gain a ropelike texture for a single frame. There's also an unused defeat animation for Mari in this fight that shows her glitching out, superimposed with Hellmari's (the distorted version of Mari that appears during the jumpscare if you open the door for her) outline/silhouette.

Omocat later admitted that Humphrey was their least favourite part of the game, to the extent that they initially considered giving the player a way to skip his dungeon entirely (which would have involved feeding him dynamite). They later clarified they didn't hate the character, just the dungeon associated with him.

The game was originally planned to be a graphic novel, but was released as a video game instead as Omocat felt it would fit the story better and would allow the player to make choices during it.

The number 143 shows up in many places throughout the game, a reference to the number of letters in each word of the phrase "I love you". In one room of Black Space, Something follows Omori around, occasionally saying "SUNNY... I love you...". Waiting for 143 seconds in this room and then choosing to jump into the hole at the far right is the only way for the player to access Black Space 2 outside of Route B.

Faraway Town was originally going to feature recurring enemies to fight like dogs and birds, complete with different sprites for Happy, Angry and Sad status. The final game features only scripted encounters with human enemies in Faraway Town, as it wouldn't make any sense for a bunch of teenagers to be going around randomly beating up dogs and birds.

The working title for the game was OMORI ひきこもり(OMORI Hikikomori), which was also the working title of the original Omoriboy blog. Omori's name comes from the word "hikikomori", a Japanese term for a shut-in or someone who rarely leaves their home, combined with the name of his creator, Omocat.

Many of the character shipping combinations in the game have their own unique name.
  • Sunny and Aubrey is Sunburn
  • Sunny and Kel is Suntan or Caprisun
  • Sunny and Basil is Sunflower
  • Sunny and Cris is Sunfish
  • Aubrey and Hero is Pink Popcorn
  • Aubrey and Kel is Baseball or Baseball Bat
  • Aubrey and Basil is Photobomb
  • Aubrey and Kim is Cotton Candy
  • Basil and Kim is Honeysuckle
  • Hero and Mari is usually just called Heromari, but is sometimes jokingly called Mario
  • Sunny, Basil and Aubrey is Burnt Sunflower
  • Sunny, Kel and Aubrey is Sunscreen
  • Sunny, Basil and Kel is Sunkissed
  • Many ships are also named based on the flowers that Basil compares the characters to in Headspace. For example, Kel and Basil is known as Cactiflower.
It's a common (often lighthearted) fan theory that Aubrey and Kel are nicknames, with the characters' real names being Aubergine and Kelsey respectively. Kel actually was named Kelsey in an early build of the game, and Omocat seemingly confirmed "Aubergine" as canon on their Twitter.

It was originally planned for Omori and Aubrey to have "quick-time events" of their own, in addition to Kel. Data for these still exists in the game's code.
  • Omori's, referred to as "Hit the Mark" in the code, would have been used in order to cut party members free if they got webbed up by the Spider Cats in Pyrefly Forest. Similar to the Attack command in Undertale, an indicator would move back and forth along a meter, and the player would have to press the button while the indicator was in the middle (on the red line) to succeed. Failing would have generated unique dialogue from each party member.
  • Aubrey's, referred to as "Smash QTE" in the code, would have been used for smashing Space Ex-Boyfriend's statue in Sweetheart's Castle. The player would have had to press the "interact" button (Z on computer) rapidly to fill up a bar.
