Kingdom Hearts pointless trivia, mostly because I'm playing it and wanted to write about it as well.
The Parasite Cage Heartless in the first game bears many similarities to an early boss in Final Fantasy IX, Prison Cage. In both games, a character (Pinocchio in Kingdom Hearts and Garnet, then Vivi, in Final Fantasy IX) gets trapped inside the creature, and the main character (Sora/Zidane) must work together with his at-the-time enemy (Riku/Steiner) to free them. Both enemies are fought twice in total. Vivi and Pinocchio also share some similarities, as Pinocchio is a puppet who possesses a heart and a conscience, and Vivi is an artificial lifeform who also possesses a conscience and "heart".
Normally, when Donald or Goofy use a healing item or spell on Sora, they will call out Sora's name. However, in the battle with Guard Armor in the first game, they will call out "Don't give up!" instead, since they haven't yet learned Sora's name at that time. Sora will say "Here!" or "This should help!", his standard quotes for using a healing item on himself, if you have him use an item on either of them during the fight. Later on, he will say their names.
In the first game, scenes may be different if the player does things out of order. Completing Deep Jungle before completing Wonderland will show Snow White in the scene in Hollow Bastion instead of Alice. Also, if Hollow Bastion is completed before starting Olympus Coliseum, Maleficent will not appear in the scene with Hades after Cerberus is defeated.
A Final Mix-exclusive Woody and Buzz summon was planned for Kingdom Hearts II, but never made it to the final game. Untextured models of the characters can still be found in the game's code.
A Jungle Book world was planned for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep but never implemented. Remnants of the world can still be found in the game's data, including a complete King Louie's Temple area. It's not known why the idea was scrapped. A Jungle Book world was also planned to be included in the first game, but there was already a Tarzan world and the director thought that two jungle-themed worlds would be redundant.
The reason Tarzan and his world only appeared in the first game was that Disney lost the rights to use the character and related properties and was unable to get them back. This is why there is no Deep Jungle world in Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, despite that game's worlds being created from Sora's memories of the worlds he's previously visited.
In the Tarzan movie, Sabor is referred to as a female (the name "Sabor", in the original book, is the Mangani ("ape-language") word for a lioness - this got changed to "leopardess" in the Disney movie). However, the journal entry for the first game refers to Sabor as "he".
Another journal entry mistake is in Kingdom Hearts II, where the journal incorrectly says that Tigger first appeared in Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree. Tigger's actual first appearance was in Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day. However, later Winnie the Pooh movies made by Disney (not adapted from the books by A. A. Milne) showed Tigger in flashback scenes that took place during Honey Tree, so this could be the reason for the error.
There is a popular and widely-believed rumour that Vincent Valentine from Final Fantasy VII was intended to appear in the first Kingdom Hearts game, but executive meddling forced the director to put Cloud in there instead, so he gave Cloud Vincent's design to compensate. This, however, is false; Cloud was always intended to appear in the game. Cloud having Vincent's design was a reference to Cloud using the powers of darkness, so the designer wanted to make him look a bit demonic - and since Vincent's design was sort of like that anyway, he just went for it. He did say he would have LIKED to put Vincent in the game, but never mentioned there being any actual plans to do so at any point.
However, Rikku WAS supposed to be in the first game instead of Yuffie. The game developers thought that it would be too confusing with Riku and Rikku, however, so they changed it to Yuffie and gave Yuffie the outfit Rikku was supposed to wear. Rikku did appear, along with Yuna and Paine, in Kingdom Hearts II, but her name is never spoken in dialogue and she plays a very minor role in the plot.
Fans were puzzled for a long time on what exactly Sephiroth says during the battle against him in the first game when using his attack that KOs Sora instantly (or lowers Sora's HP to 1 if Once More and Second Chance are equipped). Brady Games claimed it was "Sin Harvest" in their guide, but listening carefully, it didn't really sound like that. The second game finally made it clear that it was actually "Descend, Heartless Angel", referencing Safer∙Sephiroth's "Heartless Angel" attack in Final Fantasy VII.
The Magnum Loader enemy found in Space Paranoids in KH2 is a reference to the Magna Roader enemy from Final Fantasy VI. Magnum Loader is even called Magna Roader in Japanese.
