Must have been something you said
Again, I'm writing a guide, mainly for myself, but others can use it if they want. This is how to get an all-S Rank Chaos Chao in Sonic Adventure 2 (this probably works in Battle too and in the PS3/Xbox 360 HD remake).
Why would you want to go through with all this? Well, for one, Chaos Chao never die. That means you can spend as long as you like raising all their stats to level 99, so they can completely dominate all the Chao Races and Chao Karate. And with S Rank in all the stats, that means they'll get the maximum amount of points per stat too.
Note: You might not actually be able to get Stamina to S Rank, but that's okay. As long as you get the other four up, you should be good.
So, first off, we need to get a Chao from the shop, and make sure it has at least an A in one stat. I have tested and found out that a Chao's stats are determined right from the word go - that is, if you buy a Chao from the Black Market, hatch it, then reset and hatch it again, it will have exactly the same stats. Also, the colour of the Chao egg makes no difference - all eggs sold by the Black Market at one time will have exactly the same stats when they hatch.
The Black Market changes stock after you spend at least five minutes in a stage - not on the Stage Select screen. You don't have to spend five consecutive minutes in a stage, just five minutes in stages in total. So, for instance, you could spend two minutes in Metal Harbor and three in Radical Highway, and that would cause the Black Market to change.
So to do this right, you'll want to spend about five minutes in a stage, then complete a mission so your game saves. Then go to the Chao Garden, check the Black Market, and exit so your Chao Data is saved. (Remember, Chao Data and game data are separate things). Then go back in, buy an egg, take it back to the garden, and hatch it. Check its stats, and if it doesn't have an A or S in one rank, go to the PS3 dashboard screen and quit the game. Load the game up, and spend five minutes in a stage again. Complete a mission, go back to the Chao Garden, etc. Repeat until you get a Chao that has an A or S in a stat.
If your Chao has an S in one stat, then congratulations! You lucked out and don't actually have to do anything with this Chao except wait for it to evolve. If it has an A, which is probably more likely, you'll need to do a bit of work.
Chao can evolve into different types based on a whole load of complicated things which I won't go into now. The first thing you should do is get it at least 100 points in Swim and 50 points in Run (note: points, not levels) using Chaos Drives so that it can swim and walk. What you do next depends on what type you want.
If you want a Swimming type, you don't need to do anything else.
If you want a Flying type, give it 40 Fly (purple) Chaos Drives.
If you want a Running type, give it 20 Fly Chaos Drives.
If you want a Power type, give it 20 Fly Chaos Drives and 40 Power (red) Chaos Drives.
The above is assuming you already levelled the Chao's Swim and Run stats enough so it can swim and walk.
The best stages to get Chaos Drives in are Prison Lane (if you want a Hero Chao) and Iron Gate (if you want a Dark Chao).
The next step is waiting for your Chao to evolve. This depends solely on time, and usually takes around three hours. Contrary to popular belief, there is no minimum Stamina for a Chao to evolve - I've seen a Chao evolve with Stamina level 2. All that matters is time you spend in the garden with your Chao.
Once your Chao evolves, take it back to the Health Center and you should see that the A has now become an S. Exit the Chao Garden to save your data.
Now, you need to get another Chao with an S rank (either before or after evolution) in a DIFFERENT stat than the first Chao. Once you've done that, it's time to breed!
Get two Heart Fruits from the Black Market, then go back and give one to each Chao. Make sure they eat the whole fruit. Now, wait a few seconds and the Chao will sit down and get surrounded by flowers. This means they're ready to breed, but wait a second! Press Start, then Exit. This will save the Chao in the "ready to breed" state, which means if you don't get lucky, then you can just reset, load your file and try again. This will save a lot of time.
By the way, if the Black Market isn't stocking Heart Fruits, you need to change the stock as detailed earlier.
Once you've got your Chao saved in the "ready to breed" state, bring them close to each other and they'll make an egg. Wait for this newborn to hatch, then take it to the Health Center and check its stats. We need it to have at LEAST an S in one of the previous stats and an A in the other stat, if not an S in both. If it doesn't? Reset! If it does, then if it has an A in one of them, raise that A to an S just like you did the previous two.
Example: Our first Chao has an A in Swim. We raise it as a Swimming type, turning that A into an S. We then get a second Chao which has an A in Fly. We raise that as a Flying type, turning that A into an S. We then breed these Chao and get a Chao which has an S in Swim and an A in Fly. We raise that Chao as a Flying type, turning the A in Fly into an S, so now we have a Chao with an S in both Swim and Fly.
So, now we need to repeat the whole process from scratch with the two REMAINING stats. For instance, in our example we would need to get a Chao with an S in Run and one with an S in Power, then breed them to get a Chao with S in both Run and Power. Then, finally, we breed the two double-S Chao together and HOPEFULLY get a Chao with S in Swim, Fly, Run and Power (and maybe Stamina too if you're really lucky). Note that, again, at least one of the stats (but ONLY one) can be an A - you can just raise it into an S.
So now we have our all-S Chao, but it's still normal. How do we make it a Chaos Chao? Well, first, your Chao has to reincarnate at least twice. Chao reincarnate at the end of their life cycle if they have a good relationship with you (note that if you abuse your Chao, even once, at any point during this, it will not become a Chaos Chao). You can check how many times a Chao has reincarnated by taking it to the Health Centre and looking at "Times transformed". Once that number says at least 2, it's time for the next step: Animals.
You need to give the Chao one (and ONLY ONE) of every single animal in the game. There are 21 in total, and here's what they are.
1. Bat
2. Bear
3. Boar
4. Cheetah
5. Condor
6. Dragon
7. Gorilla
8. Half-Fish
9. Parrot
10 .Peacock
11. Penguin
12. Phoenix
13. Rabbit
14. Raccoon
15. Sea Otter
16. Seal
17. Sheep
18. Skeleton Dog
19. Skunk
20. Tiger
21. Unicorn
My advice is to keep a checklist of which animals you have given to your Chao and which you haven't, so you don't accidentally mess up. If you want to know where to find a specific animal, watch this video: https://youtu.be/cKUv8OYrQQk
Note: Contrary to popular belief, you CAN give your Chao Chaos Drives if you want it to evolve into a Chaos Chao. However, the stats need to be very balanced, so I would recommend not doing so just to be on the safe side. You don't want to mess up now after coming so far.
Once you've given your Chao one of every animal, let it reincarnate one more time, and you'll have your all-S Chaos Chao. Enjoy it! You earned it.
