This is the only start for me!

Pointless trivia time again. This time, it's Sonic Adventure . Some time after the game was released, SEGA revealed that Chaos is actually a Chao that got mutated by the power of the Chaos Emeralds, rather than an actual guardian deity creature. Though derived from the word "chaos", "Chao" is pronounced "chow", not "kay-o". It is also both singular and plural, like sheep (one Chao = many Chao). Sky Chase Act 1 was originally going to have a boss in the form of a robotic dragon which would attack by breathing fire. The dragon is still in the game and can be put back into the stage via hacking, but it does nothing and cannot be attacked. The English voice acting for the game is often criticised for its poor quality, but people often put the blame on the voice actors themselves when it was mostly the voice director Lani Minella's fault. The actors were only given their lines, with no information about story context or what they were ...

Dying to undo the moment when all fell apart

I decided to do a pointless trivia on Scooby-Doo! I don't know much about the series so this may be very short. Despite being a popular reference to the series, no villain in the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! series ever said the exact phrase "And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for you meddling kids." Most villains referred to the gang as "meddlers", rather than "meddling kids", and they often simply said nothing as they were taken away. The closest the original series comes to the line is in the episode "A Gaggle of Galloping Ghosts", where the villain says "I'd have gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for those blasted kids and that dog !" However, the phrase does appear in some of the newer series, as a nod to the fandom. When discussing the show's success, character designer Iwao Takamoto said "And I got away with it thanks to those meddling kids and their dog." The...

Share the one world now!

How about some pointless trivia about One Piece ? The working title for the series was Romance Dawn , which was used as the title for the first chapter and volume of the manga. Also, originally there was no treasure - Luffy became a pirate simply for the thrill of adventure. In an early draft submitted to Shonen Jump , Luffy's grandfather was the one who gave Luffy the Gomu Gomu no Mi. However, this may have been a deliberate deception by Eiichiro Oda in order to keep Shanks a secret. This draft also featured a female swordswoman named Ann, who looked similar in design to Nami, though she didn't join Luffy's crew. The villain of the draft was a pirate captain named Rokkaku no Spiel, who to this day is the only One Piece character to ever use actual magic (having the ability to ride on a broomstick, set people on fire, summon a hammer and control water). In the first draft, another female Nami-like character named Silk was introduced, who did end up joining Luffy'...

Because this is the way my life goes

Q&A for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance . Q: What's the best Spirit? A: The best anything will obviously depend somewhat on personal preferences, but the Ryu Dragon seems to be at the top of most people's lists, mainly because it's one of the few spirits that can teach you the awesome spell Mega Flare, as well as being decent in its own right. Plus, if you have the 3DS version (as opposed to the HD remake), you can get one at the beginning of the game if you abuse AR Card Spirits. Boukun Rex is another good one, which also teaches Mega Flare, coincidentally enough. Q: Are there any other Keychains in the game other than the ones you get as part of the story? A: Yes, there are four. Sweet Dream, which is obtained by completing all Flick Rush tournaments; End of Pain, obtained by completing all Special Portals; Overdrive, obtained by completing all Secret Portals; and Ultima Weapon, obtained by defeating Julius. Q: How do I fight Julius? A: After finishing...

Staring at the truth 'til I'm blind

Aww... Guys, it's another "correcting misconceptions" post. Let's just go somewhere else and come back later. (Good, I never liked them anyway.) "SOS" does not stand for "Save Our Souls" or "Save Our Ships" or anything like that. It actually doesn't stand for anything. It was just used as a cry of distress because it was the simplest to remember and use in Morse code. "News" does not stand for "North, East, West and South" or "Notable events, Entertainment, Weather and Sports". Again, it doesn't stand for anything. It's most likely just a plural form of "new", since the news (is supposed to) concern new topics and events in the world. "Posh" is not an acronym for "Port Out, Starboard Home", supposedly from how rich people would book rooms on cruise ships. "Fuck" is not an acronym for "Fornication Under Consent of King" or "For Unlawf...

Time for me to shine

Want another pointless trivia? Well, too bad, you're getting one anyway. This one's going to be about Sonic the Hedgehog again, mostly Sonic Forces and Sonic Mania . The original title of Sonic Mania was Sonic Discovery . The name Sonic Mania was suggested by head of Sonic Team, Iizuka Takashi himself, who felt the game was made "for the mania, by the mania". The Drop Dash, the new ability for Sonic/Classic Sonic in both games, is based on a glitch from the original Sonic the Hedgehog 2 which allows Sonic to charge up a Spin Dash in midair and release it when he hits the ground. In Sonic Mania , after defeating Weather Globe, the boss of Act 2 of Studiopolis Zone, the TV screen in the background displays a "technical difficulties" screen (actually the BBC's test screen, but with Eggman replacing the girl and clown in the original) as a persistent buzzing sound is heard. This is a reference to the infamous Sonic 25th anniversary livestream, whic...

Someone said I am such a foolish girl

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite California girl July here! I've taken over this blog to talk about my favourite game of all time, The World Ends with You on the DS. I play this game obsessively, so I thought I'd come to you all and share my wisdom and experience, and give you some tips to help make the game as easy as I am. *giggle* So to start off, let me give you some basic tips, darlings. First off, if you wanna play this game seriously, you're gonna have to learn how to use both screens at the same time. I know it sounds kinda like trying to pat your head and rub your stomach, but if you wanna get good at this game, you gotta master this skill. Practise, practise, practise. You can't rely on the computer to bail you out, darlings, especially in the harder fights. Trust me, eventually you'll get the hang of it. Okay, now let's talk about pin setup. There's a great setup that'll make the early game a cakewalk, so let's get started! ...

She was like April skies, sunrise in her eyes

After September had fun doing this character quiz, she decided to make April do it too. So here's her entry. April: As you wish. I will do my best. 1. Pick which OC you are going to answer this in. 2. Answer all the questions Truthfully. Make it interesting! -- Name: April. Birthdate: I became a doll on August 14th, 2009, so as far as I am concerned, that is my birthdate. Birth Place: In September's house, in Vantaa, Finland. Current Location: Wherever September is, attending to her needs. Eye Color: Very dark brown, almost black. Hair Color: Black. Height: Roughly 5'5", but I do not know exactly. Weight: I think I am an average weight for someone my height. Tattoos: None. September wouldn't approve of someone marking her doll. Boyfriend/Girlfriend: September is my owner, but she is the closest I have to a girlfriend. Overused Phrase: "Please let me know if I can be of any service." FAVORITES Food: I do not have any strong preferences, but I do enjoy...

You're not a baby on my heart!

Another kind of pointless trivia thing. This time it's Final Fantasy VII , but specifically focussing on the many translation mistakes and other oddities. Ever wonder why Cloud Strife has two unusual names, whereas everyone else has a relatively normal surname? It's due to a Japanese joke/pun that doesn't translate very well. In Japanese, Cloud's surname sounds very close to the common German surname "Strauss" (and in fact, his mother's name is given as "Claudia Strauss" in the artbook) - "Sutora if u" vs. "Sutora us u". This doesn't come across as well in English. Barret's name is a Japanese pun on the word "bullet" (both are pronounced "baretto") which also sounds like the common surname "Barrett". Again, not easy to convey in English. In the game files and in some early promo material, his name was spelled "Ballet". In the Temple of the Ancients, Cloud and Aerith have a ...

And you can say that my hair's a disgrace

Time for some pointless trivia again. This time, I'll be covering everyone's... "favourite" anti-Mario, Wario. Wario's name isn't just Mario's name with the M turned upside down. It actually comes from a combination of "Mario" and the Japanese word "warui", meaning "bad" or "mean". Wario doesn't just steal stuff in his own games, he's also stolen the main character spot from another game. The game Wario Blast: Featuring Bomberman! was released in Japan as a straight-up Bomberman game titled Bomberman GB , with no Wario anywhere in sight. Wario was added for the western release and given top billing in the title. The sequel, Bomberman GB 2 , was released unaltered in the west, but retitled simply Bomberman GB . In the English version of Wario Land II , there's a penguin enemy that throws bowling balls at Wario. If Wario gets hit by a bowling ball, he turns red in the face, becomes dizzy (with rever...

Crazy, keep on driving!

I'm gonna do a post listing the differences between the Japanese and English versions of the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, just because. This is only important and general differences, not every single minute difference between the Japanese and English dubs. The first season of Yu-Gi-Oh! that aired outside of Japan is titled Yu-Gi-Oh!: Duel Monsters in Japan, but simply Yu-Gi-Oh! elsewhere. In Japan, this is to differentiate it from the previous anime, which was simply titled Yu-Gi-Oh! and made by a different company, which was never dubbed. English speaking fans often refer to this anime as "Season Zero". First, name changes. Yugi Muto kept his name, but the pronunciation of his last name was changed from "moo-toh" to "moh-toh" for some reason. Yami no Yugi (literally "Dark Yugi") became Yami Yugi, with "Yami" being treated as his actual name for a while. Katsuya Jyonouchi became Joey Wheeler. Mazaki Anzu became Tea Gardner. Hirot...

'Cause you look so much cuter with something in your mouth

Decided to do this OC quiz again. This time, it's September's turn. September: I'll give a great performance, as always. 1. Pick which OC you are going to answer this in. 2. Answer all the questions Truthfully. Make it interesting! -- Name: September. And yes, that's my real name. I was named after the song by Earth, Wind and Fire, because both my parents loved it. Birthdate: May 12, 1994. Birth Place: Somewhere in LA, I don't know what it was called exactly. Current Location: In your deepest dreams and wildest fantasies. And also Finland. Eye Color: I don't know, it keeps changing. What does it look like to you? Hair Color: Many. Height: I'm very tall. Weight: I have a slender, dancer's figure. Tattoos: Would you paint over a portrait as beautiful as this? Boyfriend/Girlfriend: My precious doll, April, and also Caroline before her. Overused Phrase: I don't overuse any phrases, what are you talking about? FAVORITES Food: Lollipops, duh. Candy: ...
