I need more candy canes!

Let's go!

I'm writing a kind of guide this time, mainly for myself, but others can use it if they want. I'm writing this because literally NO ONE ELSE has written a guide for this yet. So what is it? Well, it's the LASS setup on The World Ends with You, modified for EXP gain. Sounds fun, right?

So what is LASS? Well, LASS stands for Lapin Angelique Suicide Special. Basically, it's a specific combination of equipment that turns Neku (the main character) into a walking powerhouse, in exchange for basically making it so that a stiff breeze will KO him. It's high risk, but high reward too. There are three different kinds of LASS setup - ATK, Balanced and EXP. Since I'm interested in the EXP setup, and since I'm basically writing this guide for myself, that's what I'll be focussing on here.

Note that this will not be a full game walkthrough - there are plenty of those on GameFAQs. This is just a day-by-day guide on getting the LASS setup, and the BRV (Bravery) needed to wear the items as fast as possible.

W1D3

When you first gain access to Dogenzaka, go there and defeat the Pig Noise to get a 5000 Yen pin. Sell it and use the money to buy Tonkotsu Ramen and Shio Ramen from Ramen Don (the latter is required to clear a wall). Have Neku eat the Tonkotsu Ramen immediately for a head-start in raising his BRV.

Buy Ribbon Mini-hat from Lapin Angelique at A-East. You won't be able to wear it yet, but it becomes available today. This should raise your FSG (Friendship Gauge) there to Level 2.

Note: After Neku digests the Tonkotsu Ramen, buy as many Vanilla Soft Serve as you can and just keep eating them one after another while continuing with the story. Since Vanilla Soft Serve falls under the fullness threshold, you can eat as many as you like per day to grind Neku's BRV. Vanilla Soft Serve are available from Burger Shop in Shibukyu Main Store or Shibukyu Stationside.

W1D4

Buy Peach Turtleneck from Mus Rattus I at 104 Building. It should have its ability unlocked already. Equip it to your partner now if you like/can.

Get 4 10 Yen pins from Bigbansprog at 104 Building. Hold onto them - don't sell them! Set your difficulty to Normal. The drop rate is very low, so be patient. It's easier if you go a bit further until you get (S) Chain 4, then chain battles together to increase the drop rate. Try reducing your LVG too, but don't forget to Save in case something goes wrong.

W1D5

Evolve the Masamune that you got from yesterday's boss via Mingle PP into Nenekiri, then evolve that via Shutdown PP into Enju, then evolve that via Shutdown PP into Yoshimitsu. This is the best Shockwave pin, and will help you immensely until you get the LASS items.

If you're trying to get the Patchy Biker Jacket on W2D5, talk to the Reaper at Tipsy Tose Hall today and clear his challenge to obtain Durable Leather.

Buy four Purple Sneaks from Tigre Punks in Molco (the extras are to unlock its ability). Equip it to your partner immediately.

W1D6

Buy Happy Beam from Natural Puppy in Cadoi City. Evolve it via Battle PP into Natural Magnum, then via Shutdown PP into Hounder Magnum, then Battle PP into Bear Hug Magnum, and finally Shutdown PP into Angel Magnum. It'll take a lot of grinding, but once you're done you'll have the best Energy Rounds pin in the game, a nice companion for your Yoshimitsu.

Replace Vanilla Soft Serve with Crepe, available from Mexican Dog on Spain Hill.

If you're trying to get the Patchy Biker Jacket on W2D5, evolve a Murasame (you should have one from yesterday) to Level 3, then talk to the Reaper at Molco to obtain Durable Leather.

Buy Green Warm-ups from Mus Rattus III at Cadoi City. Spend at least ¥4000, then another ¥4000 to unlock its ability. Equip it to your partner if you have enough BRV.

W2D3

Replace Crepe with Pancakes, available from WildKat on Cat Street. Pancakes are wonderful for raising BRV, but they're only available today and tomorrow, so stock up while you can!

Buy 4 Naraka from Jupiter of the Monkey on Cat Street (the extra ones are to unlock its ability and so that Beat can have one when he joins you, as they are no longer available to buy after he does).

Buy Ribbon Shoes and Shirt & Arm Warmers from Lapin Angelique. This should raise your FSG there to Level 3.

Buy (S) Extra Slot from Import Stylings in Shibukyu Main Store. It's a Quest item, which requires 2 Scarletite and 2 Rare Metal. You should have plenty of Scarletite already (you get one automatically at the end of each day on your first playthrough), and Rare Metal can be obtained from Thrash Mink on Hard difficulty, which can be found at Shibukyu Main Store, though you should already have 2.

W2D5

You're going to be busy today. A lot of the stuff you need for this setup comes out today, including all the pins you need. Let's tackle them first.

Buy 2 "One Stone, Many Birds" from Dragon Couture in Shibukyu Main Store. Evolve them both via Mingle PP into "One Grain, Infinite Promise". Put both pins in sub-slots. These will be your Burst Rounds pins for puck passing.

Fight Alterna Wolf at the Scramble Crossing on Normal difficulty until it drops 2 "Fiery Spirit, Spirited Fire". Evolve these via Shutdown PP into "Flames Afar, Foes Aflame", then evolve them again via Shutdown PP into "Blue Blood Burns Blue". These are Flame Blast pins for dealing damage.
Note: When you try to equip both "Fiery Spirit, Spirited Fire" pins, you will get a message saying you can't equip two Class A pins with the same Psych. Don't panic. Once you evolve the pins into "Blue Blood Burns Blue", the Psych will change from Pyrokinesis to Flame Blast, and the class will change from A to B. Unfortunately, this means you have to evolve them one at a time.

Find Tenho at Miyashita Park Underpass and defeat him at Tin Pin Slammer to get Tin Pin Thrift. This will give you the Sacrifice effect, which is needed for LASS to work properly.

Now that you've got your pins, it's time to get some new threads.

Purchase Blink Step from Pavo Real Stationside in Shibukyu Stationside at Statue of Hachiko. You don't need it (though you can use it if you want), but this will raise the FSG, allowing you to purchase Gold Band and unlock its ability. Equip it to Neku immediately.

By now, if you've been keeping up with your BRV grinding, you should have enough to equip Ribbon Mini-hat and Ribbon Shoes. If you don't, then just keep grinding Crepes until you do have enough (or Pancakes if you still have some left from yesterday).

Buy two Lace Bonnet and one Ribbon Mini-hat from Lapin Angelique to raise your FSG, and repeat this until your FSG reaches level 6. Then buy Asymmetric Jersey and Blond Wig to get it up to Level 7. Equip Asymmetric Jersey (if you don't have enough BRV yet, then just grind until you do).

Alternatively, you can use Patchy Biker Jacket instead of Asymmetric Jersey (though you still have to buy Asymmetric Jersey to get your FSG up). Patchy Biker Jacket is available from Tigre Punks in Molco, and has a much lower BRV requirement. However, it's a Quest item, which means you'll need to gather the materials necessary for making it - 5 Tektite, 2 Durable Leather and 1 Biker Jacket.

Tektite is available at 2F of Shibu-Q Heads at FSG Level 4. Alternatively, it can be farmed from Hard Corehog on Hard difficulty at 104 Building, or Decadraven and Easterraven on Hard difficulty at West Exit Bus Terminal.

If you've been following the guide, you should have 2 Durable Leather already. If not, it can be bought at Wild Boar 104 in 104 Building at FSG Level 6 (Quest item, requires 10 Rare Metal and 1 10 Yen pin), or from 1F of Shibu-Q Heads.

Biker Jacket can be purchased from Tigre Punks in Molco. Unfortunately, it's a Quest item in itself, requiring 3 Rare Metal, 1 Durable Leather and 1 Cotton Biker Vest.

Rare Metal is dropped by Alterna Wolf on Hard difficulty at the Scramble Crossing.

Cotton Biker Vest can be bought from Tigre Punks in Molco.

Obviously, Asymmetric Jersey is easier to obtain, but the lower BRV requirement of Patchy Biker Jacket makes it easier to equip. Use your best judgement in deciding which to buy, keeping in mind that you will have to buy Asymmetric Jersey anyway in order to get your FSG level up.

The only problem you'll be left with if trying to obtain Patchy Biker Jacket is getting your FSG high enough to unlock it in the first place. The easiest way to do this is to buy 4 Purple Sneaks (which you should have already done earlier) and 2 Cotton Biker Vest, which will get you just short of the FSG level required. The last thing to buy to push it over the edge is Double-spiked Cuff.

W3D1

If you want to get D+B Ring for your partner, today is a good day to farm Rare Metal. The Noise Orchefrog appears at Statue of Hachiko, West Exit Bus Terminal, Station Underpass and Scramble Crossing today and drops Rare Metal on Easy difficulty, so harvest away! You need at least 40 to be able to purchase D+B Ring.

Defeat the Pig Noise at West Exit Bus Terminal and Station Underpass to get two Tektites, which you need for Goth Bondage Coat tomorrow.

W3D2

Buy 2 Vampire Dress from Lapin Angelique. This should get your FSG level there to max, unlocking the abilities for everything. Finally, buy Goth Bondage Coat. Now you're ready to be both beautiful and deadly!

Equip Goth Bondage Coat, Vampire Dress, Ribbon Shoes and Gold Band to turn Neku into a beautiful, seductive and deadly Elegant Gothic Lolita Mistress of Destruction. (And yes, for those who haven't played the game, Neku is male).

Equipment Abilities:
Goth Bondage Coat - Jinxed ATK Boost +10 = Places whoever wears it in mortal peril and causes enemy attacks to knock them back, but in return greatly increases Attack.
Vampire Dress - SOS ATK Boost II = Greatly increases Attack when the wearer is in mortal peril.
Ribbon Shoes -  Jinxed EXP Boost = Places whichever partner wears it in mortal peril at the start of battle, but in return greatly increases the amount of EXP you get.
Gold Band - EXP Boost II = Increases the amount of EXP you get.

If you want to get D+B Ring for your partner (it's better than Naraka, but harder to obtain), this is the way to do it. Listen well.

Go to D+B 104 in 104 Building. Your FSG should be at Level 1. Then buy the following items in this order.
Level 1: Ice Blow
Level 2: Satin Camisole
Level 3: Star Cap
Level 4: Star Cap again
Level 5: Cowboy Boots (Red)
Level 6: Ice Blow, Cowboy Boots (Red)
Level 7: Trade 40 Rare Metal and 4 10 Yen pins to get 4 Stunning Crystals.

Go to D+B Molco in Molco. Alternate between buying Stronger Cap and Denim Blouse to raise your FSG until D+B Ring is unlocked. In order to buy it, however, you'll need Adamantite. Go to Scramble Crossing, Station Underpass, Dogenzaka or A-East and fight Jelly Neocoustic on Hard difficulty. Don't kill it, but instead allow it to multiply until it spawns a Jelly Germanic and kill those until they drop Adamantite. You need 3 for the purchase.

Once you have the ring, go back to D+B 104 to unlock its ability.

Partner Threads

You didn't forget about your partner, did you? This setup (known as the Slapshot setup) will ensure that your partner is a valuable ally and not a hindrance.
Purple Sneaks - Faster Puck II = Makes the light puck travel much more quickly.
Peach Turtleneck - Faster Puck I = Makes the light puck travel more quickly.
Green Warm-ups - Faster Puck I
Naraka - Puck Power I = Causes the light puck to start with its power already slightly magnified.
Expensive alternative:  D+B Ring - Puck Power II = Causes the light puck to start with its power already magnified.

BONUS: Post-Game Power Up
After completing the game, go back and grind Neku's BRV until it gets to 300. Then, go to Week 3 Day 3 and follow the story until you're asked if you want to play Reaper Creeper. Say yes and move the indicator to Black to get the Black Book Bag. Replace the Vampire Dress with it.
Buy two Kaleidoscope from Lapin Angelique in A-East. It's yet another Quest Item. Here's what you need and the easiest way to get it.
Tektite - Dropped by Brassbanfrog in Another Day on Normal difficulty (need 5)
Orichalcum - Dropped by Brassbanfrog on Hard or Ultimate difficulty (need 1)
Shadow Matter - Dropped by Choirfrog on Ultimate difficulty (need 3)
Replace One Grain, Infinite Promise with these once you have them.
Fight Minimal Rhino on Week 3 Day 4 in Miyashita Park on Ultimate difficulty until it drops Black Rose. Put this in your empty slot.
If you want, you can replace one of the One Grain, Infinite Promise pins with Rhyme, which will save you having to grind for two Kaleidoscope pins.
Note: To unlock Ultimate difficulty, buy (S) Ultimate from Real Life Solutions 3F at Shibu-Q Heads. You'll need 2 Orichalcum, 6 Rare Metal and 4 Tektite. You should know where to get these by now.

That should be it! Enjoy your new power!
