Let's see what you've been working on

How about some pointless trivia about Epithet Erased?

Creator Brendan Blaber (a.k.a. JelloApocalypse) has revealed a lot of information about how Epithets work. Among others:

Any word that has a widespread established meaning can be an Epithet. For example, a word you made up and only you and your friends use can't be an Epithet, but a slang word common in a major metropolitan area, like "Yeet", can be one.

Only nouns or verbs can be Epithets. This does not include proper nouns.

If a word has more than one meaning, then the Epithet will have powers corresponding to both meanings. However, your Epithet's power largely depends on your own interpretation of the word, which is why Molly's "Dumb" Epithet favours the classic "cannot speak" definition rather than the more modern "stupid" definition. This is why Creativity is a stat. That being said, you cannot deliberately misinterpret your Epithet - it's only dependent on interpretation as far as the word actually works. For instance, Molly can use her "Dumb" Epithet to make things quiet or "dumb things down", but she can't misinterpret her Epithet as "Drum" just because it sounds similar.

People are born Inscribed, and usually figure out their powers around age 8-13, though some discover them later in life or not at all.

What Epithet you get is totally random, and has nothing to do with personality, genetics, or anything else.

Swear words can be Epithets.

Animal names can be Epithets, but animals themselves cannot have Epithets.

You need to be able to understand what your Epithet means before you can use its power. A baby born with the Epithet "Fire" will not come out of the womb being able to create fire, because a baby doesn't understand what "fire" is, and needs to learn it first.

All Epithets start at level 1, and are incredibly weak. The more you use your Epithet, the more it levels up and the stronger it becomes.

Jello confirmed that if Bugsy and Arnold had successfully delivered the Arséne Amulet to the leader of the Banzai Blasters and got promoted, only Arnold would have moved up a rank.

When asked if there were any LGBT+ characters in the show, Jello's initial response was that he thought Arnold might be gay, but it would never come up in the show so it didn't matter. He later revised his view and confirmed that Arnold is definitely gay, as is Crusher. He also declared that Giovanni and Zora are bisexual, Percy is asexual, Molly is asexual and possibly also aromantic, and Howie is aromantic and asexual.

Giovanni's nickname in the Banzai Blasters is Creampuff.

When asked whether Ben would get a Banzai Blasters nickname, Jello answered "Maybe."

Epithet Erased is loosely based on Anime Campaign, a tabletop RPG campaign that Jello ran, though the plot is mostly original with only a few loose similarities. Some names of things were changed in the adaptation:
The Bushido Blasters became the Banzai Blasters.
Percy's Epithet was changed from Feudal to Parapet.
Zora's Epithet was changed from Crepuscule to Sundial, because Jello liked the idea of sundials ticking when she used her ability.
The Gemini Amulet became the Arsène Amulet.

Jello revealed that the Arsène Amulet is the result of someone infusing their "Copycat" Epithet into an amulet, via a process known as "transcribing", explaining why it has a cat motif.

According to Jello in a tweet, "Molly's not THAT nice. You just happened to meet her in a situation where being Service Industry Nice was the best call for her, so that's what she did."

The stars in Molly's hair originated from a character Jello designed for a game that never got made. The character had a star and alien theme, and Jello liked the stars in her hair and gave them to Molly when he redesigned her.

The movie Gekijōban Pocket Monster: Kesshōtō no Teiō Entei was a huge inspiration for the series. Molly's name originates from there, and Mera's crystal/glass spikes were also inspired by the movie.

Jello originally wanted to bring Molly along for the Redwood Run arc, since he knew fans would miss her, but couldn't figure out how to work her into the story. He has said that if she did come along and met the rest of the cast, she would dislike Sheriff Gorou due to his incompetence, be scared of Zora, and get along fine with Ramsey.

Ramsey's voice actor, William Sopp, revealed why Ramsey hates birds: mainly because the writers thought it was funny, but also because Ramsey appreciates art and hates how birds cover statues in poop.

According to Jello, most of the Banzai Blasters were entirely characterised by their voice actors in the booth, and he knows very little about them himself. Crusher's line "I love you!" was entirely ad-libbed, and Jello had Spike say "I love you more!" to tie the scene together. Crusher being named for his massive crush on Giovanni was never planned, but was made canon after that scene.

The artists and animators who worked on the show all hated Indus, because his detailed design and awkward size compared to the rest of the characters made him really hard to work with.

Indus's designs are based on a sun and a heart for warmth and turtle shells for defense.

Indus has a sister, but her design hasn't been finalised yet.

Jello has said that Molly is his overall favourite character, though he also has a soft spot for Arnold. He also admitted that Phoenica and Yoomtah are his "pet" characters. He has said that Car Crash is his favourite Banzai Blaster.

Jello wanted Danny Cooksey (the voice of Jack Spicer in Xiaolin Showdown) to voice Giovanni, but the role went to Kyle Igneczi in the end.

The first draft of Epithet Erased was much more tabletop RPG-inspired, having such things as in-universe dice rolls, passive abilities, and even level-ups. Giovanni's Critical 13 ability is a holdover from this.

Sylvie was originally planned to be a serious character, but he was made more comedic partway through production.

According to Jello, Zora smells like "dirt and woods and seat and bad".
