I hope you die in a fire

Thought I'd do another "debunking misconceptions" pointless trivia, this time about Five Nights at Freddy's. This'll mostly be focused on gameplay, since a lot of the lore is quite nebulous anyway.

The first game in particular generated a lot of false rumours and misconceptions, due to a combination of the game not being very forthcoming with information, Phone Guy's hints being rather vague and unhelpful, and people's own experiences with playing or watching the game colouring their perception of it.

First of all, Foxy. A lot of people think that Foxy will run for the office if you look at him too much, due to Phone Guy mentioning that Foxy hates being watched. However, this is not true. In fact, looking at any camera - not just Foxy's - will completely prevent Foxy from moving for a few seconds. What Phone Guy meant was that looking at Foxy intimidates him, not that it aggravates him.

It's often believed that Bonnie has the unique ability to teleport between rooms, but this is false - Bonnie moves from one room to the next just like all the other animatronics. The rooms Bonnie moves between just happen to be further away from each other on the map than the others, which can give the illusion that Bonnie is teleporting, especially if you're not paying attention to him all the time.

Some people think that if you try closing both doors and keep the camera down, Freddy will instantly materialise in your office and kill you to punish you for using a cheap tactic. This belief comes from a popular Markiplier clip where he closes both doors and is killed by Freddy seconds later. What actually happened was that Freddy had already been in the office for some time - unlike Foxy (who attacks immediately as soon as he reaches the office) and Bonnie and Chica (who wait until the camera is put down to attack), Freddy has a random chance to attack every so often after entering the office, meaning he could potentially be waiting there for minutes before he finally decides to attack.

By far the most common false belief about the first game is that staying completely still (i.e. "playing dead", as Phone Guy suggests) will give you a few extra seconds of time if the power goes out and Freddy is about to kill you. However, the game doesn't track whether you move or not at all during this time. How long it takes for Freddy to reach the office, play his song, kill the emergency lights, and finally attack you is completely random, and people tend to forget that the playing dead strategy is immediately debunked by the game itself in the form of Phone Guy realising it probably won't work seconds after suggesting it.

There's a misconception that the way Balloon Boy disables your flashlight in the second game is by removing the batteries. This actually comes from the fan animation 5 AM at Freddy's: The Prequel by Piemations, and the actual game gives no explanation for how Balloon Boy disables the flashlight.

Though it's often referred to as a mask, both by the fans and by later games in the series, the disguise you use in the second game is not a mask - it's an empty Freddy Fazbear head which was actually meant to be a casing for an endoskeleton. This explains why you can only wear it for a short time - it obviously wasn't intended to be worn by people, so the inside is stuffy and has no air in it, not to mention most likely smells awful.
