I'm not here for your entertainment

Just a lot of things that people, even the media (especially the media) get wrong. Mostly about music.

Nine Inch Nails is not a band - it's the stage name of Trent Reznor. And he didn't cover Johnny Cash's song "Hurt" - he wrote and recorded the song "Hurt", which Johnny Cash then covered.

Similarly, Meat Loaf is one person, not a band. And it's Meat Loaf, two words, not Meatloaf.

Inversely, Jamiroquai is the name of a band, not the name of a person - the lead singer's name is Jay Kay. Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and Steely Dan are all also bands, not people (Pink Floyd mocked this in their song "Have a Cigar" with the line "Oh, by the way, which one's Pink?" which is something they apparently got asked a lot).

Wolverine's skeleton is only coated in adamantium, not made from it. And it's adamantium, not steel. Further, that's not actually his mutant power (and neither are his claws) - that would be a powerful healing factor, as well as claws made of bone (and even those weren't originally his, as originally the claws were contained in his gloves, before the writers decided to make them a part of him since otherwise anyone could just put the claw gloves on and be Wolverine). Also, Logan is not American, he's Canadian.

Professor Charles Xavier, despite being played by Patrick Stewart and frequently depicted as having a British accent, was born in New York City and grew up in America.

There is no one called Hootie in the band Hootie and the Blowfish. The name comes from a combination of the nicknames of two of the founding members' college friends.

Scissor Sisters is a band that contains both male and female members, with a male vocalist and a female vocalist. They are not all female, nor are they sisters (or actually related at all). The name comes from the lesbian sex act known as scissoring.

Similarly, Barenaked Ladies are an all-male (and fully-dressed) band.

Captain Jack is also a group, not a person, whose name is based around the character of Captain Jack who featured in most of their songs.

U2 are not from England, nor even from Britain. They are from the Republic of Ireland, which is not part of Great Britain or even the United Kingdom.

The song "The Legend of Zelda" (popularly known as "Link, He Come to Town" after the first line) was done by Joe Pleiman on OCRemix, not System of a Down. System of a Down have never performed the song, not even as a cover.

Despite what the South Park creators seem to think, Slayer is thrash metal, not death metal.

John Lennon never said that the Beatles were "bigger than Jesus" - he said "more popular", and if anything it was more a lament than a boast, as he was making a statement on the decline of organised religion at the time, rather than bragging about the Beatles' own success. He was also poking fun at the kind of people who take things like religion too seriously.

The fourth opening of Naruto, despite repeating the line "We are fighting dreamers", is merely titled "GO!!!" (yes, written just like that) - the words "Fighting Dreamers" do not appear in the title in any way (no, not even as a subtitle).

There is no singular "the" Antichrist in the Bible, and "Antichrist" does not equal "Satan". An antichrist is simply someone who opposes Christ and his teachings.

Lucifer is not Satan, nor is he even an angel. Lucifer (meaning "light-bearer" in Latin) was the nickname given to a particular king who literally brought light to the nighttime streets of his city, but fell into ignoring his responsibilities later in life. Also, Satan's kingdom is not Hell - God sent Satan to Hell to be punished, not to give him a new home. He doesn't rule over Hell or anything like that. The Bible makes it clear that his kingdom is actually Earth.

The fruit that Adam and Eve ate in the Garden of Eden was not an apple. The Bible doesn't mention what type of fruit it is (only "the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil") and apples weren't discovered until centuries after the Bible was first written. The snake that tempts Eve is just a snake - it is not identified as, nor supposed to be, Satan.

There is no Book of Revelations in the Bible. It's the Book of Revelation, singular.

Jesus was not born on 25 December (the Bible doesn't mention a specific date, but implies it happening sometime around September). 25 December was the date of a pagan winter festival that the Christians adopted as the date of their Saviour's birth in order to entice pagans to convert (look, we have the same date of celebration, you should totally join us). They did the exact same thing with Easter. More to the point, Jesus most likely wasn't born in a stable - even most editions of the Bible translate "kataluma" properly as "guest rooms". He was most likely born in the living room of some relatives who had taken their flock in for the night. Though mention is made of a group who brought three gifts, nowhere in the Bible does it say that three wise men visited him, or that their names were Casper, Melchior and Balthazar. In short, almost everything we know about the Nativity story is wrong.

Contrary to popular depiction, Jesus was most likely not white, nor did he have long, flowing hair or radiant beauty. He probably looked like any other average Middle Eastern Jew of the time, especially since he was a carpenter by trade (actually, he probably looked rather scruffy). Since Paul, one of Jesus's disciples, wrote in a letter that long hair on men was disgraceful, it's highly unlikely Jesus had the kind of long, flowing hair he's often depicted with, and the fact he looked rather plain is highlighted when it actually has to be pointed out to Pontius Pilate which one of the group is Jesus when the Romans came to take him off to be crucified.

Witches were not burned as a form of execution, they were hanged, though many of the corpses were burned after hanging.

Paganism is not the name of a religion - "pagan" was just a derogatory term used by Christians back in the day to refer to anyone that followed any religion that wasn't Christianity. It means essentially the same thing that "heathen" does.

Hanukkah (or Chanukah, Ḥanukah or however you want to romanise it) is not the Jewish version of Christmas. The two celebrations are nothing alike, and Hanukkah isn't really that important of a holiday to begin with (certainly not as important as Christmas).

"Allah" is just the Arabic word for God. Muslims worship the same God that Christians and Jews worship.

Atlas was not forced to hold up the Earth on his shoulders. Atlas and his brother Menoetius sided with the Titans in the Titanomachy, the war between the Titans and the Olympians. After the Titans were defeated, Zeus punished Atlas for his betrayal by making him stand at the western edge of Gaia (i.e. the Earth) and hold up Uranus on his shoulders. Uranus being the husband of Gaia in Greek mythology, this had the effect of ensuring the two would never be able to embrace again. In classical art, Atlas is often depicted as holding up the celestial sphere. The misconception of him having to hold up the Earth possibly comes from the Farnese Atlas, which was a 2nd-century Roman marble copy of a Hellenistic sculpture that depicted Atlas kneeling with a globe weighing heavily on his shoulders.

Hades was not the Greek version of Satan - he was, by all accounts, a pretty decent guy. He is also the God of the Dead, not the God of Death (there is a difference) - the God of Death in Greek mythology is Thanatos.

Cows are not sacred in Hinduism. "Sacred" is a Christian term and doesn't apply to Hinduism to begin with, and even if it did, it wouldn't apply to cows - there are no cow deities, cow statues or temples to cows.

The media gets so many things wrong about the Quran that I'm not even going to bother listing them all here. Suffice to say, if it seems like it's promoting terrorism, it's probably not actually from the Quran.

No one explicitly tells Luke that Leia is his sister in Star Wars. He "feels" it. Also, they never actually make out with each other, either before or after their relation to each other is revealed. Leia kisses him twice in the whole series - once on the cheek for luck before he goes to destroy the Death Star in A New Hope, and again on the lips in The Empire Strikes Back when she's trying to make Han jealous.

Also, it's very often a point of parody that the Death Star could be destroyed by just shooting it in an exhaust port, but in the movie, it wasn't at all that easy. The Rebels first had to risk their lives acquiring the Death Star's plans just to know that weakpoint was there, then they had to fly down a miles-long trench barely wide enough for two attack craft, past laser turret defenses, and hit the weak point dead on in order to destroy it. It would be very much like trying to run down a hallway past two guards without getting touched.

Sonic the Hedgehog is not aquaphobic in the games, though he is in some other continuities. He just can't swim. Ironically, this came about because of a research failure on SEGA's part - they believed that hedgehogs couldn't swim in real life, when they actually can.

Despite being thought of as a Japanese company, SEGA was actually founded in Hawaii by Americans. Its name is a shortening of its original name, Service Games.

It was widely reported for a long time that Shigeru Miyamoto disliked Donkey Kong Country, saying something like "People will pay for a mediocre game as long as the graphics are good". While he did say that, he didn't say it about DKC, which he actually worked very closely with Rare on developing and later went on record as saying that he liked. The comment about graphics was most likely him complaining about Nintendo trying to force him to mimic DKC's visual style for Yoshi's Island, which would not have fit the game's aesthetic at all.

Kingdom Hearts is not joint-owned by Square Enix and Disney - it's entirely owned by Disney, who merely hired Square Enix to develop the games for them. All original characters and properties of the Kingdom Hearts series are owned by Disney (yes, this means Sora is a Disney character). However, anything that happens to Square Enix's characters in Kingdom Hearts is still owned by Square, but Square themselves claim no ownership to Kingdom Hearts as a whole. This is why the copyright for every game in the series says "Copyright Disney. Developed by Square Enix".

The main character of the Legend of Zelda games is named Link (by default - the player can name him in almost every instalment), not Zelda. Zelda is the princess (and she doesn't always have to be saved, either - in some games she doesn't even appear, in others she takes a fairly "backseat" role). Though in some games, naming your character ZELDA (in allcaps) unlocks a secret or Easter Egg of some sort. Also, Link is not an elf. His long pointy ears indicate that he has Hylian ancestry. (To be fair, in the very first game - The Legend of Zelda - he was an elf, but that was later retconned). There are also multiple Links, and multiple Zeldas, but there is only one Ganon/Ganondorf. And his name is Ganon, not Gannon, and he doesn't have a last name - "Ganondorf Dragmire" was completely made up by the localisation team of A Link to the Past. Only the Link from Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask was known as the Hero of Time - the other Links have different titles, or no title at all.

Sonic does not live on Mobius. In the games, he lives on Earth, and in Sonic X he comes from an unnamed alternate world (which is sometimes called Mobius by fans, but never given any name in the series or any official merchandise). This was, again, something made up by the translators.

The names of the main character and his rival in the original generation Pokémon games are Red and Blue (or Red and Green in the Japanese version), not Ash and Gary.

Before and around its release, several articles claimed the Wii U to be "a new controller for the Wii". First of all, the controller is not the console, it's just a controller that comes with it, and secondly, it's an entirely new console, and its controller and games cannot be used on the Wii (though Wii games can run on the new console and use the new controller's screen while doing so).
